Started listening to TWiT 103 and got so nauseated after 10mins I turned it off. Waiting all night to give Apple $500 is not a pilgrimage

Apparently waiting all night in a line to give Apple $500 is a religious experience now, it's better than Woodstock, something to tell the grandkids about.... I had to physically stop myself from chewing a hole in my desk at that point.

There was no actual news in this episode, it was just a long Apple advert. If I want that I'll go and find the f'ing Apple.com podcast.

Sorry... I'm calm now... I'm in a happy place.... I'm in a happy place :)

If the reports are right and it would cost $3000 over two years to own and use an iPhone, it just proves that as Americans we don't know how to spend our money very well :)

Open source doesn't get any time on TWiT I've noticed. FLOSS Weekly has died a death. Leo does a great job and I enjoy his podcasts but he never covers open source stories it seems :(

To be fair he did say at the start "this is an iPhone episode so turn off now if you are bothered by that" I carried on and almost risked my own mental health by not heeding his warning.

yeah, that 'experience of standing in line', i mean, how far from real people are they?

I didn't make it all the way through 103. Yes, there was the warning - which I took to mean the whole episode would be a look at how good or bad the phone is, rather a load of gushing drivel about the experience of buying the thing.

my point exactly. wrong choice of guests, i guess... however, i'm not going to moan about it any more. i'd rather moan about my own podcast, since i'm involved in one

I propose a motion of "worst episode ever"

Yeah it does sound a bit bitchy moaning about other shows now that we have our own... I think I need a pseudonym for anonymous bitching now hehe :)

Yeah I hope the "iPhone" talk dies down. I don't even listen to MacBreak weekly anymore since they can't seem to talk about anything else

Ok I don't want to go on about this... but I will ;)

Just started listening to Ep 104 and Leo's intro was "the only member of the TWiT team who can't get an iPhone... Wil Harris" arrggh!!!!

I'm half expecting to see Steve Jobs on next panel or something :)

@dan, it's almost becoming a form of autism.. only being able to relate to the world through the iPhone.

i'm surprised that no one has bought one and smashed and posted the vid on youtube. it usually happens with the latest gadgets

With a 500 bucks device? No way.

@al - BREAKING NEWS iPhonics is a new problem sweeping the world today, the ability to only refer to things as they relate to the Apple iPhone. It's a worrying trend, Presidient Bush has declared a new War On iPhonics...

no wait... President Bush has just issued a retraction, he just remembered he has Apple shares... here's Susan with the weather, "It's raining iPhones everybody!!!"

sheryl, even if I could get an iPhone I wouldn't bother. I'm sure it's a great device and all, just that I've no real need for one.

I've never really understood the consumerist 'must have' mentality - and relating the feeding of that need to something akin to a 'love in festival' is to me a tad distasteful.

It is good that no-one got hurt and those queuing were nice to each other but why is it being attributed to the quasi-religious power of the iPhone? Perhaps the fact that there was no shortage of the devices helped on that front? Or maybe it was because most people on the whole are decent enough?

Anyway, I've spent enough energy on the topic today. I feel that I'm starting to suffer from iPhonics.

I think most people are decent and we let the news media tell us otherwise precisely because it sells stuff. There's a culture of fear being projected around the world and it's very dangerous.

Bad things happen no doubt and there are bad people but they are not in the majority, I'm not naive I know that there are bad people but I reckon 1 or 2 out of every 100 is really bad not the 99 you see on the news every night, why don't they ever report anything good that happens, it just doesn't sell things the same. Fear pushes people to the right wing of politics, it always has and the media is owned by the right wing, it's good for corporations it makes them money. I don't think we need to call Columbo in to solve this one somehow

P.S - I don't want an iPhone either, I don't even own an iPod, yes I am that weird :)

One of the things I heard on TWiT that was surprising was a type of 'community' feeling. All around a high-priced piece of gadgetry. @Dan, yes, most people are decent. I would say that those in line waiting for the iPhone were also people of wealth to some extent...although the story of the 15 year old spending all the money he had in the world was kind of sad.

One of the surprising things I've heard so far is that the iPhone doesn't have a 'todo' list and you aren't able to sync any of your notes to your desktop. Come on now. I've been using a PDA for years now and have always been able to do that. Seems to me that an iPhone is a step backwards. I wonder how long it will be before people realize they got caught up in the hype and made a terrible mistake and are stuck with it for two years.

I would LOVE an iPhone! Can't deny that. BUT I don't make a ton of money and there is a lot of things I would do first before I spend $500 on the phone and then $80 a month on the data plan.

The people who bought the iPhone are a very narrow subset of society. Most of the people I interact with on a regular basis don't even understand the potential of a smart phone. Let alone what a file structure on their computer is.

We on Jaiku are still a very narrow subset of society. Let's face it most of us are special! :)
